Ethernet Provision - What is 'Subject to Survey'?

If you’ve ever considered a "leased line" or Ethernet circuit for your business you’ve most likely spotted “Subject to survey” on quotes. This single line of text is there to protect both parties (the ISP and the customer) from unforeseen costs. We take every possible precaution to ensure that prices quoted are as accurate as possible, however there’s certain aspects we just can’t predict and a physical onsite presence is required to confirm availability.

The whole internet industry may seem complicated, but when it comes to fibre or Ethernet services its very simple. We need to get a cable from point A to point B. Consider the physical aspect of this for a moment. How does the fibre get to your property? The short answer is via existing ducts in the ground. But, it’s not that simple. What if the duct is full, blocked or broken? What if the duct doesn’t run in to your property? Essentially we may need to do more work than was initially budgeted.

Likewise, what happens if you decide to order the service and additional work is required to provision the service? Are you committed to these unforeseen charges? No.

If you’re happy with the pricing that you’ve been quoted, then the best thing to do is order the service. A survey will take place, and within a couple of weeks you’re either aware the order will be progressing without excess, or know a definitive cost. There are absolutely no financial implications if you choose not to progress if excess charges are identified.

If you have any specific questions about the delivery of fibre optic Ethernet services we’d be happy to discuss it in detail with you.
